6 Meters band operation ?
2015-01-05 21:09
Could anyone tell me how to use the 6m band please ? Anytime I try to switch to 6m, there is a message saying Hi SWR etc..... meens that there is no antenna.
Is there any antenna I can use with 6m band.

Thanks

The 6m band is only a Sporadic-E simulation, apart from the "normal HF" bands.
For 70cm, 2m (UHF/VHF) and 6m (Sporadic-E SSB) you don't need a special antenna (on HamSphere only, of course).

This answer is wrong and misleading,6 mtrs is correctly a band on which sporadic E propagation occurs but not only 6 meters gets this type of propagation,it also occurs on 10 mtrs & 12 mtrs as well. That aside regarding Hamsphere you cannot transmit on the 6 meter band as it is a non functional band and yes you probably would need a dedicated antenna none of which are present on Hamsphere.6 meters to date on Hamsphere 4 has never been a functioning band.

Yes, in the real world it is of course (as I wrote also), but we talk about HamSphere. ;-) And there it is (by the bandplan).
There is no other function at the moment for this band (as far as I know, I may be corrected if it should be wrong). And also no special antenna, as i wrote... (weather the IDC is working there nor the G5RV or other "multi-banders").
In other words: There is no special function for the band at this time.

In the real HF-world the bandplan is a little bit different - and also the type of licences, country regulations/rules and so on of course.. :-)

Jorg,
There is no function on 6 meters on Hamsphere 4 it does not work period, you cannot recieve or transmit on that band.So why not just say that at present 6 meters does not work.Instead of implying that it does and needs no special antenna. Why if it needs no antenna does it say high swr on this band please load a relative antenna ? Since the inception of HS4 6 mts has never worked,it's always been promised but never appears. The 6 mtr button on the radio is just at present there for show and nothing else.

The original question should have been answered by saying.Sorry at present 6 mtrs is not functional you cannot recieve or tx on it.But check back here for further news regarding the 6 mtr band.

That would have answered the question properly and not mislead the way your reply did. I Quote

" The 6m band is only a Sporadic-E simulation, apart from the "normal HF" bands.
For 70cm, 2m (UHF/VHF) and 6m (Sporadic-E SSB) you don't need a special antenna (on HamSphere only, of course)."

This misleads the person asking the question into thinking that 6mts functions the same as 2mtr & 70cmc which it does not ,you cannot make 2 way communication using 6mtrs on HS4.It is not working as yet.
