Don't hear anyone
2014-08-16 09:57
Hi HS4 users

I have just installed the software but I don't hear anyone.

I have set up the FIREWALL port forwarding to 80 as suggested

What am I missing?

Hi Ekendra,

Port 80 is not enough for HS4. 80 is only a HTTP Server-Port. Please make sure forwarding the Ports 5000 and 5001 as well, that's important.

And as you know from the real HF, it's also depending on the DX-conditions, Ionosphere, Sporadic-E and so on, if you can here DX-Stations.
It could be a little difficult with an all-band vertical-antenna (like in the real world). Just try it e.g. on 40 Meters or 80 Meters, that should be a good test for the vertical antenna even in this moment. You can hear Stations from your area and with lower signals from far away as well on this bands.

Please also make sure to type in the chatbox: /dxmon on
That will show your callsign and frequency in the cluster, otherwise not.

Good luck with testing.

73 and good DX from Jörg :-)

Thank you Bochum,

Sorry, what I should have written is that;
Ports 5000 & 5001 were included in my Modem.

It also took some moments for me to realise that HS4 is so different to HS3. Its based on propagation conditions!!
It is just a fantastic programme.

Dear all. I also check my receiving signal using the beacons as indicated in the literature before download of HS4. Very easy to flip through bands to check. If a beacon is audible then I can use band to TX. I then use cluster log to test my SR / Power settings. I am sure more detail is elsewhere on the website / HS4 facebook page. Also using VOACAP at same time to get better understanding of propagation detail. I am using default aerial that came with software. Enjoy DXing and hope to have a QSO with you. 73

Hello Ekendra,

I'm glad to read that your problem is solved now. :-)
Yes, because of your problem it's highly recommend to read the manual FIRST. :-))))

I agree with you, it's a fantastic program and absolut real with the propagation like the "real world/atmosphere".
For example I'm using the website from a German station with the real propagation dates of the bands:

By the way: My name is Jörg, Bochum is only the name of my city. ;-)

No problem, don't worry. :-) And it is absolutely perfect in this sentence.

Kein Problem und Dein Deutsch ist absolut perfekt.
