HamSphere 4.0 Mobile News June 2017

We hope that you are enjoying your HamSphere 4.0 Mobile app. The app has been installed by over 10000 users since the launch in May and we have released some updates since then to fix some "App Not Responding" issues and minor bugs. Overall it looks very promising and we have already seen some NETs forming on our VHF/UHF repeaters.

New Plug-In

One of the most wanted plug-ins were the "Lookup Box", mainly because we need a proper search tool for operators on the system. We just released the mobile version of the lookup box and it can retrieve information about all call signs registered in the HamSphere system. It provides info about Name, Country, ISO2, QTH, Lat, Long, Grid including distance and azimuth from your location.

Hidden features

Many operators have emailed us and asked us about the hidden features in the VHF/UHF plugin. Basically there are 7 "undocumented" features:
  • PTT Lock, by holding down the PTT and slowly dragging down you can lock the PTT in TX position.
  • Frequency Lock: By tapping the LCD digits and holding you will be able to lock the frequency.
  • VHF/UHF fast selection: By clicking the LCD in any HF plugin will cause the app to select the VHF/UHF plugin directly.
  • Shift #1 = Active operator, see the TXing stations callsign
  • Shift #2 = TX Power and Mic level
  • Shift #3 = Full repeater list with fast selectiono
  • Shift #4 = Scan Mode.

New Mobile Contests

HamSphere has introduced three new awards with different targets. Award 1 is a Grid award where the mobile operator needs to work a certain number of Grid and countries. Award 2 is the WAS (Worked All States) award as a mobile version and finally Award 3 is a very special "Below the equator" award, where the operators gets points by working ops located in the southern hemisphere.

Semi Live Mobile Awards statistics

We update the Award results hourly. Follow the operators when they reach for the Awards. You can also qualify and gain positions on this list. Just have a look here: http://www.hamsphere4.com/mobile

The Waterfall Plugin

This is one of the most valuable plug-ins for the HamSPhere 4.0 Mobile app. It features both a Bandscope and Waterfall display. By touching the waterfall area, you can set the frequency in kHz. But by swiping the Bandscope you are able to "fine tune" the frequency in 100 Hz steps.

The Log Book Plug-In

The Mobile awards require that you use the mobile log book for the operation. This log book plug.-in has a "special" signature that is required by the award calculations. If you want to hunt for these precious awards you will need one of these!

Mobile Net

As of (05/25/2017) at 0100 UTC Joe Olig runs the very first HamSphere 4.0 Mobile Net. The net is run on Thursdays, 0100 UTC for one hour on the 2 Meter frequency of 145.500.
All are welcome to join the net.
He will be the net control station, with the call sign 2HS8403. This is his first time as a net control station. The purpose for the net is to discuss, and to ask questions about the new HS 4.0 Mobile app. He is also asking for any additional people to act as net controllers in my absence, or if for some reason he would lose internet connection. Thank you.
