Why are Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland not counted seprately
2020-06-02 18:36
Hello,

I lately found out that the United Kingdom is counted as 1 country in HamSphere. At least, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are not counted separately. Strange enough the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey are counted as separate countries.
Does anyone know why this is done. I find this very strange.

Why does HamSphere not follow the DXCC list of the ARRL?
This is THE list of countries as defined by the IARU.

I am really surprised and disappointed about this.
These rules should be the same, always and everywhere.
When you work Wales or Northern Ireland you expect to work a new country, just as you does as a radio amateur on the real HF-bands.
Strange enough I have heard stations with 68HS from Northern Ireland and with 108HS from Scotland.
But they are not counted separately. To make the confusion even bigger.

So far my 2 cents.

Best regards,
Jan, 14HS6601.

Hi Jan,

as far as I know is at least Scottland and Wales separated in HamSphere. I have different points there, and many others from the UK.

73 and good DX from Jörg :-)

Dear Jan,
It is simple. It is not real ham radio. The Virtual one, if its is a mirror image, it should have been like DXCC only, but, it is something different to Virtual radio also.

Dear All,

As per the practice followed by the Admin of Hamsphere, the areas of Scotland, Wales, Northern Island, MUST have the prefix 26HS only and not the different ones that are being used. If a different prefix is used, then it MUST be a different country as listed in DXCC Listings. That is a simple rule to follow. Whereas all the islands belonging to Australia, are being considered separalely, the case is different for United kingdom. Hi. These anomalies continue till the Admin sets it right.
