Is there any manual created cw on hamsphere 4

First off let me introduce myself. Commercial operator in late 1960's. LIcensed since 1970 and have worked many stations around the globe all on CW. I now find my self in a situation where i can not operate on voice as not to disturb persons around me. having found Hamsphere 4 recently I am really impressed with this program. I do not need real radio anymore as I have 50 years of fine memories but I do need to work on using cw only. my paddles make no noise and wearing my headphones are my only option. Now I am still a trial user and I would like some honest feedback about CW and Hamshere due to the fact that if there is little or no CW than this program is of no use to me. I am not a typist so this form of CW sending will not work for me. Hamspere is a wonderful concept and kudos to all the people in its creation. 73

VE6AF,

Nice to meet you! I am Mike, WW6DX, and I work CW on HS4 along with many other operators. Yes there is a CW community on HS4 with many using straight keys, paddles and bugs. Some operators use the FLDIGI program and the HS4 CW Encoder and Decoder add-ons (purchased from the HS4 Store) to utilize the keyboard to send. If you want to use your paddle, there are a few ways to do this, and I would suggest you join the Hamsphere CW and Digimodes forums on Facebook. There you can find some instructional files and user comments that will help you set up your paddle. If you reply to this post with your email address, I can send you a file that I have showing a basic setup for connecting a paddle or straight key to your computer and using a software keyer with virtual audio cables or the Voicemeter program, you can be sending CW over the bands. You can also PM to Dave, KS1K and Jose, XE1YJL who can advise other methods for connecting your paddle.

73 and hope to QSO with you on the bands OM!

HI Mike Thanks for your response and info. I have everything hooked up on this end and have been calling CQ for seven days straight. No replies!! I do not know the accepted protocols on Hamsphere and using my ingrained protocols for Hf 1. Use the bottom of each band. Gravitate to established calling freq. such as Fists (I a have been a member for many years) ie 3558,7058,14058,21058 and 28058. Is cw operating purely random or are there establised frequencies and bands. I have done a lot of DX on 30 meters and wonder if this band is CW or digital only. Are there any CW only nets? I am good for all speeds 20 Max and have no issues doing 5-10 wpm for new CW folks. In my earlier years I used to run a 10 meter net on CW so that newcomers would get practise. AS is evident I love CW, love teaching CW operating skills, and conversing with fellow CW operators. Sadly as mentioned previous I had to give up Radio HF due to a change in my living arrangements, sold all my HF gear keeping my trusty Yaesu FT817 so that maybe I can get out in the summer and do some QRP operating. I am hoping that Hamsphere will allow me to keep pounding the brass in these long cold winters in Central Aberta. 73 Frank

Frank,

CW occurs on HS4 but not as often as you would hear it on the HF bands. There are no CALLING FREQs per se, as there are on HF. We usually use the low ends of each band (10 to 30khz). On HS4 in the CW mode, as with HF, send QRL on the frequency you want to call on, and if free, start calling CQ until you get a response. It is best to beam your directional antenna to the part of the world you look to contact before sending CQ. You can also PM or send a request message with another operator via the HS4 Sked-QSO Facebook Forum. If you would like, I can call you tomorrow after 0330 UTC (19:30 Friday evening PST) on 30 meters. Let me know and hope to QSO with you!

73,

Mike - WW6DX

Frank and Mike,
I am a CW fan and like Frank, have over 50 years on CW. I am ready for a sked on CW, taking propagation conditions to the areas.
