It is my perception that most of the current operators prefer to use voice instead of Digimodes. Perhaps due to the effort to set up HS4 for the modes. I have tried to call CQ with RTTY, PSK, CW, FT8 and JS8CALL but only a few (the regular Digi operators) responding. Perhaps if more of the remote operators worked the Digital modes, more of the “phone operators” would make the effort to try setting up their rigs to work digital....

An update of various Awards would certainly boost RTTY, PSK, SSTV, FT8, ROS and JS8CALL as digimode operators seem to have lost interest and no new Awards to try to obtain!

It is sad to see more "SSB" operators than digital operators on the low part of each band (<30 Khz) and also on the Beacon frequencies with lots of QRM as a result!

Yes, Len has rightly said that the Digimodes is not getting proper attention and motivation. Hamsphere 4 awards and remote operations must have the activations in Digimodes too. I could get CW qsos with ZD9/EA1ACS and J2/SP2DNI so far. Hope Kelly will introduce more Digi Awards.
I am ready for a QSO with any one on Digimodes, by fixing a sked depending on propagation conditions.
Best 73, hope for some new QSOs.

I have been hoping for some digimode activity on the bands. I call cq on digimode on all the avaible bands most every day and night but no response, so far. I continue to hope for some activity though.

is there any guide on how to set this up? i would be interested in doing it but am not really sure how. that also would be helpful in getting others interested

There is NO quote, unquote "Guide" that Hamsphere 4 has for setting up Digital modes. There are some forum posts about how to set up to work CW. For other digital modes (RTTY, SSTV, PSK31, and the FT modes), visit the Facebook Hampshere 4 Technical Forum and check out the "Files" threads. The forum has many articles written by the "Digi-Gods" to help you set up the different modes. Hope this helps!

Greetings,

This comment from above seems to be at the crux of the issue, thank you WW6DX for clarifying:

"There is NO quote, unquote "Guide" that Hamsphere 4 has for setting up Digital modes"

I too have an interest in learning how to use digital modes such as PSK on Hamsphere 4. I have finally succeeded at getting CW operational due to the CW encoder (along with an important modification by Kelly upon request - thank you again!) that is now available. It would be great if such support for digimodes, at least PSK, could also be built into the software.

I am not a Facebook user for a variety of reasons, so no luck on that front. My suggestion would be that the developers and users start bringing this digimode/setup/operational information and or support directly into Hamsphere where it actually needs to be to get new digital mode users (like myself) started. That would also seem to serve the promotional needs that are also mentioned previously.

I hope that can start happening some day; I have been looking at this issue for well over a year or two now and have not seen any changes toward the above, and consequently digimode operation beyond CW remains obscure to me, and maybe others.

Hi all,

There is an excellent document in the files section of the digimodes group that I used as a guide to setting up my machine so that audio from Hamsphere was routed in the correct manner that external software could pickup the audio and decode it.

I understand that you don't have facebook but I would be happy to email it to you if you sent me your email address.

Bear in mind that the guide applies to Windows only so if you are running MacOS or Linix then it will not help you.

Having set it all up I can assure that it is fairly easy if you have a little PC knowledge.

Let me know if you would like the document emailed to you.

Dear friends,
If some awards on HS3 and HS4 can boost your activity, please visit arasu-manohar.blogspot.com
You will find data on how to get your FREE digi awards from India, designed by OM Babul 57HS3863.

It is high time that OM Kelly shows some interest in boosting Digimodes by creating new awards in this new year 2021.

My personal setup which is real easy but it may not be the cheapest,

I use 2 laptops #1 has HS4 and # 2 has fldigi

2 cheap usb sound cards 3 bucks each ( wish.com ) separate speaker and mic jacks 2 standard male to male 3 ring 3ft audio cables.

#1 laptop receives HS4 signals and sends out to (speaker out to usb mic in on laptop #2)

#2 laptop w fldigi sends signal (usb sc spkr out) to laptop#1 (usb sc mic in) goes out to HS4 hams

Basically cross over the audio cables.

The reason for 2 usb sound cards? mic and speaker jacks separate!

When I want to use phone on HS4 just switch to onboard audio out and mic in on laptop that has HS4

sending digital modes is easy and I use vox on HS4 rig, make all the audio and power adjustments and done.

hope this gives some ideas.

PS: The HS4 team has given me approval for sending the Amateur Radio Newsline. Check the Calendar for days, times, freq,
Mode is cw and/or psk31. I usually stick around after tx in case some would like to qso in digital mode and exchange cards.

Note: some have sent a card, which is fine that they heard the broadcast but unless we have an exchange qso in a digi mode (psk is preferred mode unless you have a good fist where fldigi can translate you!! or use fldigi in cw mode ( it is perfect cw) ( I try not no phone at these times ) please do not expect one back.

Look forward to working you! 73

Hello,
Please download VB-AUDIO cables from the internet.
In SONS configuration panel please select VB-Cable IN and OUT.
(Cable IN must be audible on speaker).
On hamsphere 4: speaker select INPUT cable and in microphone select OUTPUT cable.
In your DIGI program: select VB-CABLE sound card input and output.
Also, for DIGI mode you must take the hamsphere PLUGIN CODEC, without it you cannot transmit DIGI mode (bandwidth requires, choose codec OFF).
Restart PC.
Now use your DIGI program as usual.
73 from f0gaw and see you soon ... in SSTV maybe.
