Sounds interesting. I found this video, it's about HamSphere 3 with such a mic:

Do you have a link for the mod? Is it a connection over USB or the "normal" microphone-jack?
I'm asking because this jack can't transfer any PTT signals, so I guess it's a special USB-Microphone.

Normally I'm working with a touchpad-key and the feeling is a little bit like a Turner plus 3 or CB-800 Compressor Mic and so on.

I need to check and see if I still have the video it is an easy mod! And it does NOT use USB! Use Vox on HS4 and when you key the mic audio passes through.

I wired the mic for single (4 ring) and separate (3 ring) input jacks. When you plug it in ( I use the 3 ring ), the popup window for configuration shows... I just pick mic in. I'm on W10

I also can plug it in to my Turtle Beach headset ( just unplug its mic and plug the baofeng mic in 3 ring ) and pick headset when the configuration window pops up.

I bought a 6 foot 3 ring audio male to male cable for 2$ and cut it in half (it was very lightweight) ( a cheap earbud 3 ring will work as well even lighter). So there was no wire stripping at all, these are coated and you just strip off outer shield and solder, the heat melts the outer shield for each wire but solders the connection! to simple.

If I do not have the video I will post all pictures in my shared google drive folder located here:

I will try to post today 07-20-2019 sorry about taking so long to answer! Epic fail on my part. I just didn't think anyone was really interested...
you can email me as well mycall at gmail. thanks for your interest 73

Baofeng uv5r mic or similar text instructions simple: from kf5irg
Hamspere 4 mic mod.

Special Notes: If you are using lightweight cable there is no need to try and shave off the insulation just solder it and it will melt
and the wire left will solder in place!
The picture of the mic is with the stock wiring! Ignore and use the steps below.
M- and the speaker +- are NOT used in this setup! This is NOT an amplified speaker in the hand mic so it does no good to use it in this mod.

#1. remove the transmit led in the mic if there is one! If you don't this will NOT work.

#2. when you open the mic everything is labled on the pcb (printed circuit board)

#3. using a 3 ring male jack ohm out the rings of the jack to make sure cable is good.

#4. The ground of the 3 ring male gets soldered to PTT on PCB ( the part with the biggest surface area )

#5 the other 2 rings ( mic left and right ) get soldered to M (Mic+) TX Audio on PCB

Thats all there is to it! reassemble and plug in to the mic jack of your sound card or if you only have 1 port on a laptop
lets say ( like I do ) then plug it in and when the option windows opens select mic in!

When you setup HS4 make sure you are using VOX key your mic and make the appropriate Vox and Mic Adjustments.

Just to let you know....I've been using this for 6-8 months now with good audio and scope reports.
Make sure you do not tighten the screws to tight or the tx will stick and you could get a click spike, but do not worry about it, the other stations rarely notice or hear the click at all.

Now if this would only work with the mobile app!
But the mobile app needs vox!
I would not have to push the screen tx button lol. hint hint… but I can see why they do not have vox for mobile! Hi Hi
unless something has changed since...lol Seems the updates keep coming for many apps....

I found out something interesting today...

On my acer laptop I can plug in the 3ring for the mic and a window pops up and asks me what input I want to assign it to (good)

Now I just got an HP laptop cheap and it is an I3 pretty new but when I plug the mic into it no config window comes up and asks me any thing

I redid the os and put newest W10 on so everything is default.

The only way I could get this to work was use a 4 ring separator ( separates mic and speakers ) and had to hook up external speakers

I could not plug in mic with 4 ring or 3 ring it would kill the audio out! and I have not found away to assign the audio port to mic only on this HP!

If I come up with anything I'll post an update here. So seems that there is nothing standard for different manufacturers on how the audio jack operates...figures.

Here is the answer from HP

On My particular HP model

2 SuperSpeed USB 3.0
1 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0
1 HDMI
1 RJ-45 (LAN)
1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack

"The combo jack DOES NOT support a stand alone microphone.
Some people use a splitter
in this case you will have to use external speakers or a headset combo"

Well that explains it on this HP Laptop lol I used a splitter plugged the 3 ring mic in and speakers with 3 ring ( all Works Groovy )

I plugged in my headset with 4 ring and it worked fine too. I just unplugged the removable mic and plugged in my mic mod. ( all worked )
